Many people have heard the advertisement saying, "Filler injections: no swelling, no bruising," and wonder if it's really possible. Today, I'll help you understand this better.
Is a doctor's gentle touch true, or just marketing hype?
As a doctor who has injected thousands of fillers, I can tell you that "gentle touch" is real. But it's not just about talent; it's more about experience and practice.
Experienced doctors know how much pressure to use, how deep to inject, and what angle to inject at to minimize pain for the patient and reduce the chance of bruising.
"Experience doesn't guarantee success, but it significantly reduces risk, especially in delicate procedures like filler injections."

The blunt needle technique: Not all doctors can inject it well.
The technique of using a blunt needle is something that facial contouring doctors and filler injectors are well aware of. It helps reduce the risk of capillary damage, thus minimizing bruising. However, it doesn't mean there will be no bruising at all, because ultimately, the doctor performing the injection determines the injection point, pressure, and dosage.

A blunt-tipped needle shouldn't be used for all areas; a regular needle is still necessary for some locations.

The injection site is also important.
It's important to note that the risk of bruising varies depending on the injection site. For example, the area under the eyes tends to bruise more easily than other areas because the skin is thinner and has more capillaries. The lips also tend to swell easily but rarely bruise. The chin and temples are considered to have a very low risk of severe bruising; there might only be a barely noticeable needle mark.

Everyone's skin is different.
Another interesting point is that everyone's skin responds differently to injections. People with thin or sensitive skin are more prone to bruising, no matter how gentle the doctor is. While some people have strong skin and show almost no marks at all. Experienced doctors will be very upfront with their patients, asking if they are comfortable with this before the procedure.
Even though the skin is very thin and capillaries are visible, most cases heal within 1-2 weeks.

In summary, it's possible, but not easy.
It is possible to get filler injections without any swelling or bruising, but it's not easy and doesn't happen to everyone. It depends on many factors, including the doctor's skill, the technique used, the injection site, and the patient's skin condition. Therefore, doctors spend as much time as possible with patients during consultations to ensure mutual understanding before undergoing any facial contouring with fillers.
