How many layers does human skin have? Is it like pork belly?
I didn't expect anyone to ask, but patients still asked. As usual, I answered their questions.
Our skin has three main layers. If we were to compare it to the familiar three layers of pork belly, it could be like this:
- The epidermis: Like the outermost layer of pigskin, it's thin but very important because it protects us from the external environment.
- The dermis: This layer is like the fatty layer of a pig. It is flexible and contains blood vessels and glands.
- Subcutaneous fat: Similar to the layer of fat in a pig, it helps store energy and keep the body warm.
Each layer plays an important role in caring for our skin. When we apply cream or skincare products, they mostly work in the dermis and epidermis layers.
